The four-piece band 'on the verge of stardom'...Does it Offend you, Yeah? if you haven’t heard of them, is a four piece band from Reading. Formed in 2006, the band is on the verge of stardom as more and more electro-rock fans are beginning to discover their dance inducing music. After seeing the reception they received in the States, I was curious to see how British fans would receive James Rushent (vocals and bass), Dan Coop (synth), Rob Bloomfield (drums) and Morgan Quaintance (guitar and added synth).
DIOYY’s last gig in London was in Camden’s Electric Ballroom on October 29 and was virtually sold out. Before their 9.30pm appearance, there were two support bands; Let’s Talk Tactics and South Central. LLT were good crowd motivators, but their vocals were not on par with their music. SC, a lot more suited for supporting DIOYY, used a lot of synth and the lack of lyrics did not inhibit their performance.
After some initial technical difficulties DIOYY finally burst onto the stage, initiating the gig with an explosive rendition of We Are Rockstars. Each live song was injected with the vigour heard on their album ‘You have no idea what you’re getting yourself into’. Most bands would struggle to reproduce the sound on their CD but DIOYY seemed to glide through their set as though they were made to perform.
They steadily worked their way through the album, with the crowd picking up especially on Dawn of the Dead and Let’s Make Out, gingerly dedicated to Jonathan Ross and Russell Brand, with Morgan taking over the vocals from ex Death from Above 1979 singer, Sebastien Grainger.
The pinnacle moment of the gig, of course, was the final song, With a Heavy Heart (I Regret to Inform You). Not only did DIOYY manage to unleash the inner dance monster from each crowd member, they managed to perform it with complete ‘album like’ precision. If you haven’t picked up a copy of their record, I would advise you to do so, as there are only great things in store for this band.

The Higher Education Funding Council for England announced that Kingston would receive £73.3m in 2009/10. The average national increase was 4%, while a number of universities, including the London School of Economics, saw their funding reduced. |
| Kingston student named Microsoft 'Intern of the Year'A Kingston student won Microsoft’s 'Intern of the Year' award after a process he created was used by the computer giant’s worldwide sales force. George Avlastimovas, a Business Information Technology student, came up with a new form for staff requesting bonuses while on a placement as part of his course. He said that the internship gave him “a fantastic opportunity to shape and mould the role to suit my skills.” |
| Bring your own mugA money saving scheme has been extended to the Penryhn Road campus. Lecturers and students who bring their own mug to the Picton Room will receive a 5p discount off any hot drink. The scheme, already trialling at Kingston Hill, was introduced in a bid to encourage sustainability and cut back on packaging produced by the university. If successful, it will be extended to all the foodstores. |
| Cheeky cat in hallsGorgeous George the cat is much loved and petted by the residents and staff at Middle Mill Halls, but, his cheeky antics have got him into trouble. He can often be found pacing the car park meowing at passers by, lounging in reception or nipping into halls for extra strokes. However, halls management are now concerned that this felicitous feline is breaching the licence and have put up a sign asking students to prevent him sneaking into bedrooms and becoming overfed. |
