Police are appealing for any information regarding the sexual assault of a Kingston student last month.
A nineteen-year-old female student was followed when she got off the train at Kingston station at 1.45 a.m on September 23. Her attacker proceeded to follow her along Richmond road before sexually assaulting her. The man, who is described as “Asian in appearance and possibly in his early twenties”, was captured on the train’s CCTV moments before he got off. Enquiries are still ongoing as no arrests have yet been made in connection with this specific assault. DC Paul O’Hare of Kingston police’s Sapphire unit is urging anyone who may know the suspect or who may have seen anything suspicious on the night of the incident to call 020 8721 5903 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. As the festive season approaches, more students will be going out at night drinking and socialising and this is often when their defences are at their lowest. Ian Horgan, Crime Prevention design advisor, urges female students especially to: * Go out with friends and come back with friends. * Don’t let strangers buy you drinks * Always use licensed minicabs * If you go home with a stranger, make sure someone knows where you are going to “Be aware, don’t walk alone, and walk with confidence” is the advice offered by first year Media and Cultural Studies student Chimene Lufuta Tamba who is determined to have a good time this Christmas. At the weekend there is a Kingston town centre police team and also a Kingston St. Pastors team that patrol the streets and who are happy to help, offer assistance and enable everyone to have a good time.
