Kingston Music Master Class Hits The Right Note
Music industry moguls were on hand at a master class last Friday to give students an insight into the inner workings of the business.
The event was part of a University project Kingston Unsigned, aimed at giving unsigned bands the opportunity to receive input and advice from experienced music professionals.
Senior Lecturer in Music, Alex Evans said: “Kingston Unsigned was the result of a grant from the PRS foundation, and staff using their personal contacts to bridge the gap between academia and the music industry.”
Platinum-selling artist and front man of Kubb, Harry Collier started proceedings by giving students a vocal workout in a practical session which whipped the ‘would-be-superstars’ into shape.
World renowned record producer, Youth (also known as Martin Glover), imparted his 30 years of experience working with artists such as Sir Paul McCartney, Kate Bush, U2, INXS, and Guns N Roses.
Music lecturer Evans was thrilled with Youth’s input, he said: “This was an incredible opportunity for our music students. Youth is to music production what Spielberg is to film.”
Also in attendance was New York entertainment lawyer Steven Machat, who has worked with some of world’s biggest stars such as the ‘King of Pop’ Michael Jackson. He gave the budding musicians legal advice and was happy to sign copies of his new book: Gods, Gangsters and Honour
