Kingston town will come together this valentines day, as local campaign ‘Love Kingston’ plan to hold all day charity fund-raising events across the town.
Local schools, pubs, banks, choirs have pledged partake in the day, aiming to raise vital money for the ‘isolation to integration scheme’ – helping those who have lost their way in the community to reconnect.
Fund manager, Sorrel Parsons, told Your Local Guardian: “Our borough is one of the best places to live in London and Surrey but there are isolated residents on the margins that need our help to connect to people and place. We are hugely thankful to everyone that has taken Love Kingston to their heart so far.”
All-day music gigs will be held; with live music at The Fighting Cocks from 2pm. Eden Walk, in Kingston town centre, will provide art and science projects for children from 12pm. Other local pubs, the Canbury Arms and the Wych Elm, are set to offer a weekend of Valentines specials, raffles and giveaways.
Love Kingston is London’s only borough-wide local giving platform where the money stays in local community for future generations. A total of 70 per cent of donations to a legacy fund to help charities in the future, 10 per cent to the London Community Foundation and 20 per cent is immediately distributed in grants.
The Love Kingston website describes Love Kingston day as an ‘annual flagship fundraising day to raise funds for local charitable causes so they can help Kingston’s residents. It invites everyone who lives or works in the borough to get creative and have some fun in fundraising on Valentine’s Day.’
