Kingston Police have launched a brand new free night bus for university students.

New student night bus

The service, which is being piloted this month, will run between the town centre and all five halls of residence on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights.

Sgt James Waddington said: “We want to help all students to stay safe whilst enjoying their social time whilst at university.”

The £18,000 pilot scheme will be trialled for a month, during which time the police will be able to assess volume and make any adjustments before arrangements are finalised.

If successful, it is expected the university will pick up the cost once the trial is over.

The single decker bus, which is supplied by Tellings Golden Miller, will run every half an hour between midnight and 4am on Monday, Wednesday and Friday nights during term time.

The bus will pick students up from outside the Hippodrome in Brook Street and drop them off at Seething Wells, Clay Hill, Knights Park and Kingston Hill.
