Foodstore at Penrhyn road is to get a revamp adding new food lines and more choice for vegetarians.

Deli chief Jeanie Jennings said that the Christmas upgrade would include the option of meals made to order for those who are not tempted by the food on show. The designers plan to move the serving area to middle of canteen, which Ms Jennings said would make better use of the space.

“There will be more vegetarian and vegan options and if nothing takes your fancy, the staff will cater to your needs,” said Ms Jennings, who has worked at the canteen for two years.

The remodelling also provides for a carvery, a kebab counter and a wider range of drinks. Ms Jennings said all students’ favourites would still be offered.

Many students have long complained that the canteen offered too narrow a range of meals. And one first year, already a Foodstore regular, said she was looking forward to this Christmas treat. “If it’s freshly made I’ll eat it,” said Emily Murphy.
