Spring Grove Street Party a great success

The Royal Wedding Street Party in Kingston was a massive success with more than twice as many guests as its organisers anticipated.

The Spring Grove Pub recorded one of its busiest day ever, and the party raised over £4,000 for the St John’s Church Regeneration Fundraising Appeal.

Bar manager at the Spring Grove, Tim Creedon, said: “It’s been a lot busier than I thought, I knew it would be a good crowd, but I didn’t realise that we would have these sorts of numbers.”

“We started planning and promoting it the day the engagement was announced. I’m very happy with everything, it’s been a great day.” Creedon added.

The party in Denmark Road kicked off at 9am with tea and bacon sandwiches in the Spring Grove pub, followed by a live screening of the ceremony watched by more than 400 local residents.

The street was packed with people of all ages celebrating the happy couple. There were numerous activities lined up, including face painting and games, as well as fancy dress and cake competitions.

The competition judges included the Mayor of Kingston, Councillor Chrissie Hitchcock, Revd Vicky Maunder and Isobel Robinson.

Entertainment was unending, featuring the Spring Grove and Offspring Morris Dancers and bands like the Mayflys, Dave Moon and We’re So Pretty.

Organiser Emma Poole was delighted: “We started planning it in January, and everything’s turned out even better than I hoped, it’s been incredible.”

“The weather forecast was not looking promising at the beginning of the week, we had a plan B, but it’s been fantastic. It would have made life quite challenging if it was pouring with rain all day, so this is perfect.”

Mrs Poole said they had expected about 500 guests, but confirmed that at least one thousand people had attended the party.
