The coveted award was presented during the sixth London Design Festival at the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Judges included Martin Roth, the director of the V&A and Gwyn Miles, the director of the Somerset House.

Roberto and Rosario, who have worked together for 15 years under the name El Ultimo Grito, said:“[We are] humbled to have received such an honour. We feel that the LDF award is highly significant, in that it acknowledges the breadth of practice in London, and also emphasises the importance of design at a prominent level.”

The duo, who teach at a number of colleges, hope their success can inspire their graduates to pursue their own designs. “In turn, they (the graduates) can help to redefine what design practice can be.”

Some of Roberto and Rosario’s work can currently be seen in the exhibition Designing an Echo at Derwent London’s gallery in Fitzrovia.
