Wearing high heels might be in fashion. They make your body look slimmer, make you look taller and they certainly making it so much easier to kiss a taller man, what is not to like?
However, there is more to it than looks. While heels may look fabulous they are indeed a masochistic torture tools for every woman. Most women have pins and needles in their feet after just an hour of wearing so called “killer heels” the name explains it all. In that hour, they manage to regret their decisions and life choices while suppressing the urge to bawl n pain.
International relations student of Kingston University, Paula Duru, said: “I love wearing heels and I love the way they make me feel. I can wear anything from 4 to 6 inch depending on my mood. They make every outfit pop.” The 21-year-old loves fashion and has a mass collection of heels.
Studies have shown that when females wear high heel their body posture changes making them more attractive to the opposite sex also heels makes it easier to start a conversation with. This will also boost female confidence and they are easily approached by males. When a woman wear’s high heels her chest comes forward, the lower back is pushed forward, taking the hips and spine out of alignment. This then in turn put’s excess pressure on the knees and increases the pressure on the joints on the feet through a downward force.
Professor Mark Tagoe, consultant podiatric Surgeon from West Middlesex Hospital said:”When a woman wear high heels their heel to toe transition becomes rapid, forcing her to exchange her natural step for a disconnected walk. Walking like this all the time could damage the bone and the nerve. Other common problems with high heels are those constant blisters and possible ingrown toenails which can be extremely painful.”
On a recent night out, my friend and I noticed a gorgeous female with lavish blonde hair and long legs. She was wearing the highest heels ever produced, hobbling around like her legs were a foreign attachment. The struggle was evident, but I couldn’t really sympathise.
While some women have self respect and dignity and will somehow crawl home, some women will simply take their shoes off and walk bare foot on a dirty pavement as they simply don’t care anymore at that crucial moment when all you want to do is get home. Once I’ve seen a group of 20 girls holding their heels instead of wearing them. This looks very unattractive and it is also very dangerous as you can hurt yourself if you step on something sharp neither it is sanitary.
Shanelle Manderson, 21, MA magazine journalism student said: “I feel like they are bad for your health. They can give you bad posture. But pretty much everything that is done excessively is bad for you. As long as I don’t wear them too often then I think I would be fine.”
While many women have a wardrobe overflowing with shoes, they should not torture and force themselves to wear anything uncomfortable just to conform to the standards of society. Heels ranged 4 to 6 inches should be worn on special occasions only. The heel should not be any taller than 2.5 inches. That way, the heel will not damage the feet and tendon, as it isn’t too high.
Make sure you have the right shoe size just in case your foot starts sliding forward to the tip. This will put pressure on your toes and the ball of your feet. If you’re up for a night out where high heels over 2.5 inches is essential, make sure you have to walk for limited amount of time; even better, wear foldable flats, and put your heels on upon arrival to your destination.
