Gaza
Sunday became the deadliest day in Gaza with 26 reported dead after Israel launched its Operation Pillar of Defence on Wednesday in response to Gaza rocket fire.

President Obama has defended Israel’s air strikes on the Gaza Strip, which has killed many civilians as well as Hamas military leader Ahmed al-Jabari. However, the US president warns Israel against ground invasion of the Strip.

Egypt has tried to reassert its position as the ‘diplomatic leader of the Arab world’ by trying to negotiate a ceasefire between the two parties.

Israel is now under pressure to accept ceasefire talks as world leaders warn Prime Minister Netanyahu that a ground invasion would damage Israel’s international reputation.

China’s new leader
Xi Jinping was confirmed as the new leader of China and the General Secretary of the Chinese Communist Party on Thursday.

The 59-year-old takes over after Hu Jintao who lead the party for ten years in which China has enjoyed economical growth and greater influence in the world.

During his leadership he re-introduced state control in some economical sectors and warned his successor not to follow the west or change the system.

The end of Twilight
The end was finally here last week as twihards around the world said goodbye to Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black of the vampire saga Twilight.

The girls might swoon as always but the critics have been mixed in reviewing the fourth film of the saga, calling it everything from “cringingly pretentious” to “the most eventful and exciting entry”.

Most beautiful goal
It was in a friendly match between Sweden and England that Sweden’s captain Zlatan Ibrahimovic scored what has been called the best goal of the year – if not all times.

Take a look and judge for yourself.
