Kingston University women’s netball team struggled to take on University of Sussex women’s first team at Tolworth Sports Ground on Wednesday.
After a 66-16 loss against Sussex on Wednesday, the women’s team felt frustrated that the majority of their first team were unable to play due to issues with the match clashing with university commitments.
“Almost half of our first team study nursing, teaching, or music and it is those courses that are affected by this scheduling issue. This is why we have had to put together a team at the last minute, bringing players in from the first, second and third teams,” said Sherry Hobson, president of the Cougars netball team.
“The girls aren’t to blame for the last minute changes, it’s the university’s fault. They schedule lectures and placement on Wednesday afternoons rather than keeping it free for sports,” she said.
Hobson explained that although the team were defeated by Sussex, they maintained strong teamwork throughout.
She added: “Under the circumstances, I think Kingston performed really well. The girls were strong, and it is a credit to their teamwork skills.”
Kingston University’s women’s first team will play the University of Chichester women’s second team at Tolworth Sports Ground on February 24 at 2pm.
