Top 5 Christmas drinks

Warm and boozy – hot toddy
This whisky based drink will warm you up, tastes delicious and is also meant to help conquer that winter cold. For a non-alcoholic version, just drop the whisky. Use a slice of lemon, teaspoon of honey and hot water, perfect.

Rich and creamy – hot chocolate
It’s a staple in the hot drinks category for a reason. There are many flavour possibilities including orange, mint and caramel, and many toppings too; whipped cream, marshmallows and chocolate sprinkles all go down a treat.

Feeling festive – mulled wine
A favourite at Christmas, the smells, the taste, they just work so well to warm you up and keep you merry. There are so many different recipes available so just look out for the main ingredients: red wine, oranges, cinnamon, cloves, and sugar.

An acquired taste – eggnog
A drink made with eggs may not sound tempting but if the warm concoction is made well it’s the perfect drink for a cosy night in during the winter months. It is often made with alcohol but tastes equally lovely without. Ingredients include: Eggs (obviously), cream, bourbon or brandy, sugar, milk and nutmeg. Check the web for the best recipes.

Simple but satisfying – warm squash
It may not sound exciting but it only requires two ingredients, squash (of any flavour) and hot water, two things which most student households will have.
