Kingston climbed to second place in the league after winning 15-12 in a match that could have easily gone either way.

Captain David Holby said: “We really wanted to go out there and show that we can turn the season around.”

Kingston got an early lead of 7-0 in the 11th minute with a try by Jake Stinson followed by a conversion by Felston. Brighton scored a try but still went into the half losing 7-5.

Ten minutes into the second half the visitors scored a try to take the lead after a dominant spell of possession.

Dan Phoenix gave a man of the match performance, showing good hands throughout which led to a fantastic try on the 54th minute to tie the game.

“Dan is a fantastic player,” said Holby. “I don’t think I’ve seen him have a bad game.”

After trying the game Kingston looked a lot livelier than Brighton, which led to a thoroughly deserved penalty to win the game in the 77th minute.

Kingston coach Arran Cruikshanks said: “We started very well and then we just switched off and let them into the game.”
