Student pub has massive refurb in time for the new term

Kingston high street pub and student favourite, The Mill, has been renovated in time for the start of a new academic year.

As the sponsor of the university’s rugby, football and netball teams it’s always been the main pub in town for Kingston University sports teams.

KU student and sports fan Aidan Young said: “It’s a whole new pub really, I always had a good time before, but now it feels much better and way more comfortable.

“The extra pool table makes The Mill much better in my opinion, it means I can usually play whenever I want without having to wait.”

The pub has been updated with a more modern look, an overhauled bar area and extra seats.

KURFC president, Bora Ulasan said that the refurbishments at The Mill were an excellent change for Kingston town and the university, especially to sports teams which participate in the monthly sports social: Cougar Chaos.

Following sports games on Wednesdays, The Mill sees Kingston societies flood in for some of the cheapest drinks in Kingston.

The current student discounts include a £3.75 pint of Madri, £2.25 for a pint of Coors or Strongbow and £2.75 for a rum or vodka with mixer.

Monday prices are also hard to beat – £3.20 for a Punk IPA and £2.40 for a pint of Coors, a bottle of Budweiser, a pint of Magners or a white or red wine.

Gretel Havercroft, vice president of snow sports and social media secretary of netball said: “The Mill is the only place most sports societies go, the drinks are cheap, the atmosphere is great, and there’s a real community there, especially now it’s so busy following the refurbs.”

The Mill holds regular showings of sports events, including all of the upcoming Rugby World Cup matches, boxing and premiership and champions league matches on their multiple TVs and projectors.

As the pub looks to gain even more student engagement following its refurb, they have also held pool tournaments, live music and live DJ parties, with more planned for the future. Events and games held at The Mill are all announced via instagram @themill.kingston.
