One of the best shows of the year just got snubbed at the Golden Globes

The Golden Globes is a prestigious event for anyone who considers themselves a cinephile and with the release of the nominees this week, debate has raged about a certain show that has no nominations at all despite being put forward for them.

The second season of AMC’s Interview with the Vampire graced our screens earlier this year and was met with critical acclaim, earning a certified fresh score on Rotten Tomatoes and a five star rating from Empire magazine.

David Opie of Empire magazine said the season continues to “outshine the ‘90s movie and even the source material with extravagant unabashedly queer second season that cements it as one of the all-time greats”.

The eight episode season follows the vampire Louis De Point Du Lac (Jacob Anderson) as he retells the story of his life as a vampire living in Paris, navigating themes of loss, queer identities and the toll of an immortal life to the retired journalist Daniel Malloy (Eric Bogosian).

The show features stellar acting from Anderson, Bailey Bass (Claudia) and Assad Zaman (Armand) to name a few, so it is hard to understand why there are no nominations for the series at The Golden Globes.

Nominees for Best Drama Series include shows such as Mr and Mrs Smith, Shogun, and Squid Game.

New York Bestselling Author, LaDarrion Williams took to X to say: “We have to have a serious convo when it comes to awards and television. Cause how the hell is Squid Game that hasn’t dropped an episode since 2022 over Interview with the Vampire is nasty work.”

Some believe that the show’s inclusion of queer themes, with the main characters all being in openly queer relationships, as well as its diverse cast, caused it to be overlooked by award institutions despite the high praise it received from both fans and critics.

X user Nia Imani said: “I truly don’t understand why Interview with the Vampire isn’t getting the flowers it deserves. Is it the racism or the homophobia? OR BOTH?”

The first season, which aired in 2022, also got no nominations at the Golden Globes despite its success at the time.

Fortunately, award nomination season is not over just yet, and the show still has the opportunity to secure some much needed awards. AMC has already put forward many members of the cast for the Critics Choice awards and the Emmy nominee entries close in January.

Interview with the Vampire has already confirmed production for their third season which will start filming early next year and the first two seasons are available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
