Campus glamour 2- spot the trends and get the look

Our second instalment of Campus glamour again scours the Kingston campuses to find the best trends worn by KU student, breaking down how they paired their looks and offering you some inspiration for how to do the same. This time it is all about oversized t-shirts, clashing prints and grungy florals.

Clashing Prints

Charlotte Gill, Fine Art & Art History
Charlotte Gill, Fine Art & Art History

Charlotte is on point, trend-wise, because the tartan scarf against the checked jeans is the perfect way to sport clashing prints. Charlotte said she does not follow certain styles or the latest trend but has noticed that a lot of people are wearing Kimonos. When going for  clashing print make sure there is a recurring colour in all of the items you are wearing. So, in Charlottes case, black is highlighted through the Kimono, boots and details of the scarf and jeans. Get the look with this tartan scarf from River Island and checked treggings from Topshop.

Cropped Floral Grunge

Kirsty Yeung, 19, Fashion student

Here, Kirsty shows how you can make a usually girly print fit in with your autumn/winter wardrobe. Florals are usually associated with spring. However, looking for a neutral coloured floral pattern instead of a brightly coloured one, paired with a slightly cropped olive or grey oversized jumper is the perfect way to not look too girly wearing florals. Kirsty’s structured white bag compliments the flowers on her trousers and stands out against the green jumper which ties the whole look together. Kirsty says that she has noticed a lot of oversized coats and outerwear around campus which we have of in our last campus glamour. The exact trousers are from Bank Fashion, add a pair of black boots and oversized jumper like this one from H&M, whether you tuck it in or get a cropped one, it will make the trousers stand out in the outfit. If you want to add jewellery to your look then go for simple gold accessories as Kirsty has done to bring out the warm tones of the outfit.

Ashna Abdoullahi, 19, Marketing Management

Ashna is edging up an all-black outfit with a Tupac baseball style jumper, with the white and red contrasts it keeps the look exciting but still not too bright. For those days where you are really not feeling like dressing up or wearing a lot of colour an oversized jumper of baseball shirt is perfect to pair with black jeans and plimsolls. Also to add some dimension to an all black outfit Ashna matched different textures with each piece especially with the crocodile textured leather slip on plimsolls.

Get the exact pair of slip-ons from Topshop to add some dimension to an all black outfit and if you want to go for the baseball shirt look then this simple black and white one from New Look will do the trick. Pair these two with a red scarf and you will get Ashna’s look.
