KU's forwards had no luck in their humiliating eight goal defeat to Royal Holloway Photo - Iúri Cordas

After seeing the majority of its teams exit their respective cup competitions in the last round of the knock-out fixtures, KU’s fortunes were mixed this week as three teams were eliminated. Two progressed to the quarter finals, including the rugby union men’s firsts who were awarded a bye and can now look forward to a game with bitter rivals Surrey with a spot in the last four on the line.

Football

Going into the game against Royal Holloway on Wednesday, Kingston women’s firsts rightly would have fancied their chances having comfortably beaten their opposition 2-0 only last week. However the team from Egham turned the tables on the Cougars and they did it in quite some fashion.

Kingston, although showing glimpses of good play and technical ability in patches, were never in the game and could not match Holloway’s clinical finish in front of goal which saw them run out 8-0 winners. This means the KU’s women’s football team now join their male counterparts in having no more cup football for the year.

Performance of the week

The men’s lacrosse team progressed into the quarter finals of the South Eastern Cup after a convincing 22-5 win over Chichester’s first team on Wednesday.

It was the second time the men had beaten Chi this season after their 17-5 win over them on November 2. Given the team’s shaky start to their league campaign this year, it seems as though their best chance for success could be in the cup.

Story of the week

There seems no stopping for the men’s futsal team. The five-a-siders continued their unbeaten start to what is their debut campaign in BUCS with a comprehensive 11-6 win over Imperial College London in Kensington last Sunday.

The Cougars have every team shaking in their futsal boots right now, with head coach Gideon Jackson proclaiming after the game that his team can go the whole season unbeaten.
