Ten different organisations have come together to share this awareness at the weeklong festival, which is running parallel with National Climate Week.

Sam Heritage, producer for Kingston Green Radio 87.7 FM is making a big effort to spread the awareness during the week.

He said: “We are involving as many local green experts, activists and entertainers as possible to get across the message. Covering subjects from the bio-diversity of the Borough to the University’s Sustainability Hub through to gardening and food growing.

“We will be following, promoting and reporting back on all the activities of PTG during the week. We will be introducing some pretty good music programmes with quality shows such as Afro Vibes and LayDee LauRah’s Local Artist Showcase.”

Six-year anniversary

This will be the festival’s six-year anniversary and is now said to be the biggest and most successful environmental event in the borough. The festival is driven by the Kingston Environment Group.

The festival is being run alongside National Climate Week, which is Britain’s biggest climate change campaign. The week seeks to achieve a sustainable future, showcasing practical environmental solutions from every sector of society.

Mr Heritage spoke about how this year’s festival will be the best he has ever seen. He said: “More and more groups and individuals are getting involved including Businesses who are switching off unnecessary appliances, Schools who are running Environmental Assemblies and the events calendar is growing daily.”

 The environmental event dates

The event is running between 4th-10th March, in and around the town of Kingston with lots of opportunities to get involved in, while National Climate Week is running making good use of their slogan ‘Think global act local’.
