In celebration of Black History Month, The River presents a curated Spotify playlist that takes you on a musical ride through the years.

Our playlist spans diverse musical eras and genres, featuring the likes of Nina Simone, Otis Redding, Marvin Gaye, Mary J. Blige, Erykah Badu, Queen Latifah, 2Pac, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Jorja Smith, Brent Faiyaz and many more.

Each artist adds their distinctive voice to this celebration of black excellence, showcasing the impact of black culture on the world of music.

Reggae legends like Bob Marley, Lucky Dube, Peter Tosh, and Alpha Blondy join the conversation with tracks like Redemption Song and Slave, which protest against the historical injustices of slavery and racial discrimination.

In tracks like Mama Africa and Banana, Peter Tosh and Alpha Blondy share deep nostalgia for their motherland, Africa, as their source of happiness, no matter where their journeys in the world may lead.

No tribute to black music would be complete without the Jackson family and Michael Jackson’s contributions. Songs like Black or White and Man in the Mirror are powerful calls for change, equality, and unity.

Join us on Spotify, as we celebrate the rich history of black music and culture.
Let these songs be a source of inspiration, reflection, and hope as we strive for a brighter, more inclusive future.
