A KU student was presented with the great opportunity to work at London Fashion Week, and was then awarded with a trip to Paris.

Chandni Cindy Vora, 21, fashion student, interned for Preen by Thornton Bregazzi over the summer, took a sales trip to Paris Fashion Week and dressed upcoming models Kate King and Cara Delevigne.

“My favourite moments throughout my internship were London fashion week and my trip to Paris. The buzz and excitement backstage before and during the collection went down the runway was amazing,” Chandni said about her experience.

“The entire team felt a massive sense of achievement, and it was great to finally see the reality of what everyone had been working so hard on.”

Her role as an intern was focused on preparing garments for the show and supporting the design team.

Preen Designs have stocks in over 35 different countries world-wide, and are especially big in New York and Paris. Their sophisticated client bases include the likes of Sienna Miller, Kate Moss, Kirsten Dunst and the list goes on.

During her internship, the Preen designers Justin Thornton and Thea Bregazzi treated their interns well, by acknowledging and encouraging them throughout Fashion Week.

Chandni said: “The designers said to not worry too much about my graduate collection, what you do at university doesn’t always define you.”

Living the high life

She even bumped into celebrities when working in the showroom, such as Brix Smith-StartGok Wan’s resident designer-clad fashion foe on Gok’s Clothes Roadshow.

Her ultimate dream, even from a young age was to work as a designer for a high street label, and later to start her own label.

“This experience in particular really opened my eyes up to the fashion industry in terms of the diversity of jobs and paths available.”

“Overall, it was a great experience, and Preen was a great company to work for.”
