A leading Kingston University innovator has died weeks after retirement, having given the university 38 years of service.

Cynthia Jones had been teaching at Kingston University since 1974, and was a programme leader for the School of Education.

Mrs Jones, who died after a short illness at the age of 61, was a dedicated teacher with the talent to engage, captivate and educate her students.

“An exceptional lecturer”

Her husband, Rob Donnelly, said: “We hope that everyone wishing to say a personal farewell to Cynthia gets the opportunity to have that last conversation with her.”

Ex-student and family friend Ruth Wood paid tribute to her former teacher, who she described as “an exceptional lecturer.”

Miss Wood was inspired by Mrs Jones to follow in her footsteps and become a teacher.

Miss Wood said: “The tragic loss of Cynthia has left colleagues, family and friends in a state of shock.

“She was genuinely interested in the work of her students and celebrated their achievements.”
