Farrah Brennan, 22, president of the dance society, won the title for best female dancer, and dance and drama student David Devyne, 22, won best male dancer.
Miss Brennan said: “It’s overwhelming, the trophies just make our hard work, bruises, and long rehearsals into the night all worth it.”
The society (KUDS) won first place in jazz, hip hop and contemporary. Their contemporary piece also won best choreography.
Awarded near-perfect 98 per cent
The Cougars were awarded a near-perfect 98 per cent by competition judge Hugo Cortez, who was a finalist in BBC hit show So You Think You Can Dance.
Farrah said: “This is my last year at Kingston University, so it’s great to go out on such a high, I’m proud of my Cougars.”
KUDS trained for up to 15 hours a week in preparation for the competition, which was held at Royal Holloway University last weekend.
Competition helped raise money for charity
Competition co-ordinator Celeste Cameron George, 21, said: “The atmosphere was the best part. We really showed people from other universities why they should have come to Kingston.”
The competition, Dance Aid, raised just under £2,000 to help transform the lives of millions of vulnerable children in the UK, Africa and Asia.
