The visitors St. Mary’s gave Kingston a difficult match but the Cougars managed to win in style.

After the second quarter the score was 32-19 to Kingston and the home side went on to dominate the rest of the match.

“We changed our tactics in defence from man-to-man to zone, which completely stopped their big players from going down inside. We got our lead from that,” Kingston captain Asrina Miah said.

Out of cup

The win drew KU closer to league leaders Royal Holloway, who beat them in the Cup last week.

“Unfortunately we are out of the cup. We were up by 10 points for the whole game until the last two and a half minutes when they played really hard defence on us,” Miah said.

Friendly but competitive

St. Mary’s captain Lorraine O’Malley described their match as friendly but competitive.

“It was a good competitive game from the start. The first two quarters where relatively close but they kind of ran away from us in the end, with turn-overs and fast breaks,” O’Malley said.

Miah was top scorer for Kingston with 18 points, matched by her St Mary’s counterpart O’Malley.

Next game for the Cougars is on March 6 home to City University.
