The lacrosse team and the hockey team were again worth looking out for this week.
They had exciting wins with the men’s hockey team thrashing Buckinghamshire and New University and the lacrosse men’s team edging past the University of Sussex in a tight match.
However, many results didn’t go Kingston’s way with seven losses in total, three wins and one draw.
Football
The men’s first team had their home match postponed by their opposition, London School of Economics (LSE) second team.
Sitting in third place in the BUCS South Eastern 4C league, they will look to use this break to their advantage because next week they face league leaders St Mary’s University’s fourth team.
Meanwhile KU’s women football team did not have much luck either, suffering a 6-1 defeat away to University of Essex, the same scoreline they were on the receiving end of last week away to Kings College London.
This was their fourth loss on the trot and things aren’t looking bright for Kingston sitting bottom of the BUCS South Eastern 2B league with only 4 points.
Hopefully next week they will get revenge on Kings College in a home tie and pick up much needed points in a relegation battle against fifth placed Royal Holloway, University of London.
Performance of the week
The performance of the week has to go to KU’s men’s hockey who thumped Buckinghamshire and New University 18-0 at home.
Under 21s England player Will Calnan scored eight, Ben Spencer scored five, Jaspreet Gill two, and Josh Chana, Karl Pereira and club president Josh Barron all scored one to cruise their team to victory to top of the BUCS South Eastern 3A league, joint to with Reading University and Royal Holloway, University of London.
Captain Chris Rogers said: “We played well. It was a good team effort and obviously resulted in a decent win.
“The way we’re going I think we will win the league. We’ve got the team that’s capable of hopefully beating the other players in the league. So hopefully we’ll get promoted at the end of the year.”
Story of the week
KU men’s lacrosse team beat University of Sussex to 9-8 in a thrilling match, overtaking Sussex in the BUCS South Eastern 2A league to reach second place with 12 points.
Alex Winton scored seven goals and Tyrone Bartley and Captain Rob Nicholl both scored one each in the tight game.
Kingston are now just three points away from league leaders Brighton University who they playing against in an away match next week and will hope to shorten the gap between the two teams.
