Less than 24 hours since England was knocked out of the World Cup, Marcus Rashford and Bukayo Saka have once again been subjected to racial abuse online.
It comes after Rashford took a last minute free-kick with his shot just creeping over the bar.
However his teammate and captain Harry Kane completely missed his penalty and received supportive comments on his Instagram post.
Saka was also targeted and received a low rating by the Daily Mail who claimed he was “poor in the first half”, even though he was regarded by the French sport newspaper L’Equipe, as Man of The Match with a 7/10 rating.
Social media trolls sent the players monkey emojis, told them to go back to Africa and sent other racial slurs in their comments.
Fans have condemned the horrible abuse and have instead flooded their comments with supportive messages telling them how good they were and that they are proud of them.
Twitter deleted over 2,000 racist tweets aimed at Rashford, Saka and Jadon Sancho sent after last year’s Euros but recent research showed it fails to delete 99% of racist abuse sent to footballers. Instagram claimed a technology issue which marked posts as bengin had been addressed.
