Writing is one the best sources for LGBTQ people to have their voices heard, as such we have compiled a collection of books that make for an excellent read this month. With personal extracts, non-fiction, history and more, there’s a lot of variety on offer with these reads.

Queer: A Collection of LGBTQ Writing from Ancient Times to Yesterday

This book is a collection of varied forms of literature and offers a wide range of queer voices throughout time, from Catullus to Sappho, from Arthur Rimbaud to Anne Lister and Armistead Maupin.

It was called a “landmark anthology of queer writing” by the BBC Front Row programme and earned an award for writer/translator, Frank Wayne.

Have Pride: An Inspirational History of the LGBTQ+ Movement

This read offers a look into the history of LGBTQ movements across the world.

Edited by Sue Sanders, it details the achievements and challenges experienced from ancient times to the modern day, including the Stonewall riots and their legacy, global Pride movements, the HIV/AIDS crisis and equal marriage.

Additionally, the book features essays by current LGBTQ people who inspire readers to take pride, no matter their sexuality.

Last Night at the Telegraph Club

Written by Malinda Lo this is an historical fiction and romance novel set in 1950s America. San Francisco’s Chinatown is not a safe place to fall in love for the two young girls at the heart of the story. They risk all for the sake of their love.

Thriving in Business: Strategies for the LGBTQ+ Entrepreneur

More recent history than ancient history, 14 queer entrepreneurs share their experiences and the challenges they faced in starting their businesses.

All give guidance on overcoming challenges that come with starting your own business as a queer person. 

The book has been called a first-of-its kind read and helps and inspires readers to become successful business owners while embracing who they want to be.
