What we’re listening to: April 2013

By River Reporter Mar 20, 2013

The River‘s Pictures Editor Max Parker gives his thoughts on what to listen to this coming month.

HAIM – Falling

LA sisters HAIM are making girl bands cool again. Their latest release is infused with hippy sounds, catchy lyrics and a feeling of fun. We predict the BBC Sound of 2013 winners are in for a big year.

Foals – Late Night

With sex, childbirth, blood, violence and suicide, it’s fair to say Foals will not be getting a lot of TV play with the video for Late Night. Yet the single shows a softer side to the band, showcasing the skills of lead singer Yannis Philippakis

Canadian rapper Drake manages to keep up his impressive run of releases with 5AM in Toronto – a hopeful sign that his third studio album Nothing Was the Same will continue his tradition of creating credible rap music.

Second album syndrome doesn’t look an issue for James Blake as his new single, Digital Lion, sticks to the eerie, unique sounds of his acclaimed debut. Soulful lyrics pop over an addictive backdrop making this a must listen.
