Body in River Thames identified as KU student

Kingston University student found dead in River Thames.

Police have identified a body found in River Thames as KU student Jamie Smith, 19.

 

Jamie’s body was found by police divers in the river near Kingston at 7.20am on Saturday, January 19 following reports of a person in the Thames. 

 

His girlfriend Jadee Maggs left a message on her Facebook profile on January 20, stating: “Yesterday I lost someone so special to me, not only was he my boyfriend, he was my best friend. I still feel it’s not real, I can’t bring myself to believe this has happened. I will miss you so much, but you will never leave my mind or my heart Jamie, I will love you always.” 

 

The teenager, who lived in Surbiton and studied Medical Biochemistry at Kingston University, had one year left on his course. 

 

The cause of death is not yet known, but is not being treated as suspicious.
