Kingston staff and graduates mourned the tragic loss of ex-student Daniel Amies who died at his home in Oxford over the summer.
Ex-journalism student Daniel Amies died on June 27 2012. An inquest into the cause of his death will be held later this year.
Daniel’s friend and classmate Mashaal Mir said: “Everyone who knew Dan lost a piece of themselves when he died. The turnout at his funeral was proof of this. People came from near and far – our flat mate flew in from the US – to say goodbye.”
Senior journalism lecturer Lucy Smy said: “I was very sad to hear the news about Dan. I taught him in the first and second year and he was a delight to have in class.”
While studying at Kingston, Daniel was known by his friends and tutors for being incredibly bright and having a kind and friendly nature.
Ms Mir said: “Dan and I were flatmates in Clayhill during the first year. I remember meeting Dan in the hallway of our flat. He had a huge smile on his face and was naturally friendly. It was my very first time in London and Dan was so welcoming and kind to me. ”
Daniel will be remembered by everyone who knew him as a funny, witty and likeable character.
“I knew Dan for a very short time, but I’m very grateful to have known him at all. Dan was a rarity and I am honoured to have crossed paths with him,” added Ms Mir.
There was a host of Twitter updates in honour of Daniel’s memory.
@Kingstonjourno tweeted: “In fond memory of former ex-Kingston journalism student Dan Amies who died on June 27. He will be much missed by friends and lecturers.”
