Former EastEnders actress Martine McCutcheon declared herself bankrupt this week at Kingston County Court.

The actress, singer and writer, famous for roles in movies such as Love Actually, her book The Mistress, her platinum-selling album and her Activia yoghurt commercial, petitioned for bankruptcy as Martine Kimberley Sherri Ponting on February 12.

She tweeted to her fans: “I can’t begin to express my love and gratitude for such kind and encouraging messages. I’m truly so touched.”

The day before she tweeted about getting colour matched for her hair extensions and how excited she was for “longer lush locks”.

Reactions amongst her fans varied from supportive: “Sorry to hear your news, it’s easy to judge when you don’t know the facts. Best wishes x” to unsympathetic “Just another c**t trying to get out of paying what their due!”

Her bankruptcy will be lifted on January 2014.
