A much improved netball side were outclassed by the superior Surrey at Varsity.

A hardworking Kingston team was well and truly beaten, 22-41 by an impressive Surrey side.

Surrey started brightly and capitalised on a sloppy pass by Kingston allowing Kelly Weir to put the home side ahead early on, and from that point on they never looked like losing.

Carly Heenah, who shone throughout the game said: “I thought we played really well against a great side, the whole team can be proud. The support was fantastic, they cheered us on throughout the game, and I can’t thank them enough.”

Efforts in vain

Goal attack Carly Heenah and goal scorer Kate Williams both scored several times, but it was in vain as Kelly Weir outscored them both giving surrey a 18-10 lead at half time.

The game started at a high tempo as both teams tried to control the game. However Kingston gave away possession too cheaply as Surrey’s lead began to widen in the first quarter.

Too many mistakes

Kingston worked hard but too many errors allowed Surrey to pick them off and win the game comfortably with a quarter of the game to go.

Kelly Weir, Surrey’s goal scorer said: “It was a well contested game, Kingston was a massively improved side from when we played them last time. They fought back hard in the first quarter but teams were sloppy and in the end we just did enough.”

Claire Chapman “it was great team spirit; we worked hard and played as a team. I’ve spent three years part of this club and it was a great way to go out even if we lost.”
