This year has been wild. The world didn’t start the year on the right foot, nor is it finishing with the best ending. Through all the pain, sadness and sorrow, is there anything that we should still be grateful for? The answer is: YES.
1. Health care workers and first responders
Our heroes. They’ve been working non-stop, every single day risking their own lives to save ours. Yes, that’s their job but they’ve fought something that they’ve never had to deal with before, while we were at home with our loved ones. Beyond health care, they have provided us with hope.
2. Teachers
Educational institutions have made a sharp turn. Studying from home has been very tough for students, and little did we know that we would appreciate our teachers more than ever. They’ve been doing their best, trying to make online lectures engaging and also offering support off-line.
3. Increased family time
Instead of going on a holiday with our besties, we’ve spent the whole of 2020 with our families and it has taught us that we should cherish every single moment. Even if it has given us even more reasons to argue with them, we’ve learned to love them even more.
4. Key workers
If you’ve had to work during this pandemic, I salute you. It’s scary and not easy. We thank you.
5. Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and all streaming services
They’ve provided us entertainment and made the year more bearable. There’s a happy ending to every story and these streaming services have been there to remind us that better days will be coming.
6. Human rights and justice
So much has happened and we’ve spoken out! Fighting for justice and claiming human rights have brought us together as a whole. People from all around the world have been supporting each other and it has proved that there can be a better world.
7. Music
Have you been dancing in the mirror and singing in the shower? Because if there’s something that we didn’t miss out on this year, it was the releases of songs and albums from our favourite artists… We can’t wait to hear them live!
8. Health is wealth
Healthy family and healthy friends. During these difficult times, we couldn’t wish anything better for them.
9. Prêt A Manger’s coffee subscription
£20 a month for unlimited coffee? What a bargain! I see it, I like it, I want it and I got it!
10. A more prosperous 2021, or at least a better one
We all want to move on and start over. We want to go to music festivals, concerts and nightclubs, meet more than six friends outdoors, have softer hands and not wear a mask. We want our lives back!
