PlayStation Vita

Released: Out now

Cheapest price: £197 (wifi model) from Amazon.co.uk

The PlayStation Vita is here. A long-awaited competitor to the 3DS with its dual analogue sticks, a beautiful OLED screen and not one but two touch-pads, it is like a mini PS3 in your hands. It is essential for any gamer on the move but what games should you get for it? Here is The River’s top three recommendations.

Uncharted: Golden Abyss

Released: Out now

If you love the Uncharted series on the PS3, then this game is a no-brainer. It is a sequel to the very first Uncharted game.

Getting used to the controls on the Vita is a little tricky at first, but after a while it seems like second nature and you will be getting head shots with ease. If you cannot get enough of Drake or just fancy a treasure-hunting third person shooter, Uncharted: Golden Abyss fits that bill.

Frobisher Says

Released: May

Think Simon Says mixed with Wario Ware. For those who have no idea what I am talking about, you have to do a variety of quirky, quick-fire minigames as fast as you can, before the time runs out. Best of all, you can play with up to eight people on one Vita – just pass it around and try and keep up with the frantic action. It pays to think fast. Plus it is FREE so there is no excuse not to download it, really.

Super Stardust Delta

Released: Out now

Need a simple arcade game on your Vita? Super Stardust Delta is both beautiful and addictive. Using the two analogue sticks, control a spaceship and destroy all the rocks floating towards you. A retro Asteroids concept with stunning visuals, you use simple twin stick shooter controls – move with the left, shoot with the right – to destroy rocks, enemies and the ruthless bosses.

Collect power-ups, deploy bombs and watch everything explode in a colourful mess. Choose whether to use the touch-screen controls or not.
