Kingston seconds start with a bang

By River Reporter Oct 16, 2013

A wonder strike from Nathan Doble helped Kingston seconds ensure a 3-2 victory over Kings Medics thirds at Tolworth Court on Wednesday.

Kingston took the lead in their opening game of the season when Will Rainford finished from close range, taking advantage of some sustained pressure from the hosts.

This 26th-minute goal woke up Kings Medics, who equalised three minutes later with a header at the back post from captain Joe Simpson.

Impressive performance

Ten minutes before half time, Doble produced a thunderous strike from 25 yards which highlighted an impressive performance from the Kingston attacker.

Kingston seconds captain Jamie Feek described the goal as unstoppable: “The goalkeeper didn’t have a chance, he caught it perfectly.”

Kings Medics used half time to their advantage, having the lion’s share of possession for the first 20 minutes of the second half yet they were unable to breakthrough a tough defence.

Close decisions

But it would prove to be Kingston’s day when a powerful free kick from Rainford cannoned off the post to allow substitute Alex Rossler to score from close range.

There was still time for some late drama as Kings Medics had a goal disallowed for offside, and also managed to pull a goal back with almost the last kick of the game when Simpson was played in with a lofted through-ball. His neat finish capped an impressive game for him.

Nevertheless, Feek was pleased with the result, saying: “It was a good game from our point of view. We were able to control the match, especially in the first half. It became quite scrappy in the second half, but we still managed to get the third goal and kill the game.”

Kings Medics captain Simpson said: “We were quite evenly matched, and that resulted in a good game. They took their chances well, and scored goals in crucial moments of the games, which we couldn’t recover from. A few close decisions went against us, but overall I’m happy with our performance.”

Kingston seconds’ next game is against Buckingham fourths on October 23.
