Surbiton was awash with Christmas spirit this evening as the Christmas lights were switched on by none other than Father Christmas himself.
Hundreds of adults and children braved the cold and gathered across Surbiton town centre for this year's Christmas event, Turn It On Surbiton, which featured Santa switching on the lights followed by a huge procession around Surbiton.
Festive cheer
This year's festive event was extra special due to a £5,500 donation from Kingston Council's Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee, meaning that the town was able to be kitted out with extra lights and festive decorations.
Malcolm Self, the chair of the Surbiton Neighbourhood Committee, told the council back in October: "I hope that our contribution will boost the efforts of the Surbiton Business Community and others to give the town centre the kind of festive event it deserves, not just this year but in the future too."
Christmas spirit
As well as the main lights switch-on, Turn It On Surbiton included a mini-farm with donkeys, goats, pigs and more, face-painting for kids, mulled wine provided by the Kingston Food Bank and festive carol singers just outside of the train station.
