Movember: it’s back and bigger than ever

By River Reporter Nov 2, 2012

Yes, it’s that time of year again. Girls be prepared for itchy, scratchy, prickly kisses as we have reached the month of moustaches again.

Movember is a month-long event in which men say no to shaving and grow moustaches all in the name of charity.

It is not all fun and games

Movember has a serious cause behind it, raising money and awareness for men’s health, in particular prostate and testicular cancer.

The official Movember website said: “Mo Bros commit to growing a moustache for the 30 days of Movember, and in doing so become walking and talking billboards for the cause.

“The moustache is our ribbon, the symbol by which we generate conversations, awareness and raise funds for men’s health.”

The growing cause

The campaign has been going a number of years now and has spread beyond the UK and thousands of people around the world are now joining in.

Last year £79.3 million was raised, over double what was raised in 2009, bringing the total global funds raised to £184 million.

It is not too late to get involved.
