Two men sentenced to jail for raping a Polish tourist

Kington Crown Court has sentenced two men to jail for raping a tourist, only hours after she arrived in the country.

The Polish woman had been out with her friends on the evening of September 13, 2014 in the Kingston town centre, when she became separated from them outside of Pryzm nightclub.

The 18-year-old was offered help to look for her friends when she was taken to Canbury Gardens and raped by the two men.

33-year-old Mojtaba Changi, of Lea Bridge Road, E17 and 20-year-old Saeed Fatemi, of Blackthorn Court, Hall Road, E15 were both convicted and sentenced to 14 years in jail on February 19.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Ben Hawkins, of the Sexual Offences, Exploitation and Child Abuse Command, said: “The evidence points strongly to this being a pre-meditated and aggressive assault on a young woman who had only arrived in the UK eight hours previously.

“She was deliberately targeted by Changi and Fatemi owing to her vulnerability at the time. So traumatised and confused by the assault is she, that even now she has not felt able to tell her parents and family back in Poland.”

The officer continued: “She has shown remarkable bravery in flying back to the UK and giving evidence live in court and I am delighted that the trust she put in the Metropolitan Police to reach a successful conclusion for her has been justified.”
