Lana Del Rey’s original album, Born to Die, sold over two million copies worldwide as of July 2012 and with a deluxe album already, she has now released a ‘paradise’ version.
The American singer-songwriter who won MTV’s 2012 EMA for ‘Best alternative’ artist, said: “The songs I’ve written are homage to true love and a tribute to living life on the wild side.”
Born To Die: The Paradise Edition includes all the original songs plus an additional nine new tracks, one of which is her latest single Ride.
Some of the new tracks include American, Cola, Yayo, Bel Air and Burning Desire, which has been featured in an advert for the new Jaguar f-type (she also appeared promoting the car).
The Paradise Edition is utterly bewitching, and her sultry voice sends the listener to a whole different world.
While the main subject of the new material is love, they are tainted with an all too real melancholy, as in Body Electric, where she sings: “I pretend I’m not hurt, I walk about the world like I’m havin’ fun.”
However, it’s not all innocence in the world of Del Rey as she covers the subject of being the other woman.
This is perfectly summed up in the song Cola as she sings: “Come on baby, let’s ride, we can escape to the great sunshine. I know your wife and she wouldn’t mind”.
Glamour magazine said that after hearing Cola, Lana Del Rey’s existence as one of pop music’s most intriguing stars should not be questioned.
All in all, The River award Lana five stars for the new album and we urge you to pick up a copy for the new tracks alone.
Born to Die: The Paradise Edition is available now to purchase for £8.99 from Amazon or iTunes.
