The Kingston Hill officer from the KU Student Union resigned on Monday November 26 and a by-election for his role will take place next week, the Union has announced.

Petar Lachev decided to step down due to personal reasons, the Union said in a statement.

“I have learnt a lot from this role and will take away fond memories of my time within Kingston University. I wish all the staff and students the best of luck in the future,” Lachev said.

Lachev ran to become a student representative for the first time in 2016-17 and was re-elected last year, in an election that was investigated by the Student Union due to allegations of foul play.

The Union thanked Lachev “for all of his hard work in supporting students throughout his period in office” in the same statement.

“One of his big achievements was that he pushed for the University to implement a review of all faith facility provision on all campuses, which has now gone into action. I am proud to have worked with him,” said Daisy Bow, former Knights Park and Penrhyn Road Officer.

Nominations for the new election will be accepted until December 3, campaigning and voting will start on December 4, and the vote will close on December 6.

The results of this by-election will be announced on December 7 and the successful candidate will immediately start representing students to fill the vacant role until June 30 2019, the Union said.

“Petar always did his best to learn about the needs of his students and adapt to the demands of his duty.

“As a fellow officer, he was always on call to offer his support as a brotherly figure, esteemed colleague, and loyal friend,” said Patrick Tatarian, who worked with Lachev last year in his former Roehampton Vale Officer role.
