Alcohol consumption can be fun and wild on a Friday night, but that feeling of waking up the next morning regretting it can last for longer. Here we round up some hangover cures, as well as explaining why alcohol gives you hangovers in the first place.

Alcohol increases urination and can cause an excess loss of several fluids. These cause dehydration which results in hangover symptoms such as thirst, fatigue and headaches.

Taking minerals such as electrolytes can help with curing these symptoms, as the increase of urination and fluid loss can cause an electrolyte imbalance. Electrolytes are like other known minerals such as sodium, calcium and potassium.

Here are the cures to a hangover:

  1. Ginger/Turmeric

A cup of ginger or turmeric tea paired with honey has been used in Chinese culture to help with the treatment of nausea. Not only will it replenish your need for water but ginger and turmeric have anti-inflammatory properties and can be beneficial to the heart.

  1. Drink plenty!

It is a common but very effective solution. Dehydration can cause headaches but can be helped by drinking plenty of water.

  1. Getting lots of sleep

Hangovers can disrupt your sleep schedule which inhibits your body’s ability to recover overnight.

  1. Eating fruits and vegetables that are rich in nutrients.

Foods like bananas, blueberries, watermelons, sweet potatoes and spinach are all healthy options that can help reduce your hangover.

  1. Take a pain reliever

This can help ease headaches as well as muscle aches.
