TENNIS captain Chris Daw made short work of his Surrey opposite number to clinch a second successive league draw for Kingston 6-6.
Daw was too strong for Surrey captain Owen Davis and won 6-2, 6-0.
Daw said: “I played pretty solidly and made few errors. I kept him on his backhand, moved him around and looked for the short ball.”
Kingston started slowly losing both doubles games but won three singles matches to get the draw. Each match won counts as two points.
KU’s Andrea Carter and Elliott Dunn started well winning their first set 6-3 but lost the second set 6-3 and then the tiebreak 10-6. Chris Daw and Harry Dickens, the other doubles team, lost in successive sets 6-3, 7-5.
The teams agreed before play that any match that went to one set all would be decided by a super tiebreak which is first to 10 points.
Daw said: “It’s good to get some points on the board but better double’s performances and we would have won. We’ll work more on doubles in training.”
Kingston won three of the four singles matches with Daw beating Davis 6-2, 6-0, Carter beat Cem Osman 6-2, 5-7, 10-2 and Dunn beat Alex Young 6-0 in both sets for Kingston. Kingston player John-Paul Gear lost against Andre Chaterjee 7-5, 6-1.
