Women’s History Month is a time when we recognise the achievements and struggles of women throughout the years, those women who fought for equality, justice and opportunity for the female gender.

It is important to appreciate how far women have come since the time of Florence Nightingale and the suffragettes, however there is still more to be done to achieve gender parity and this year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity.

At Kingston University students are aware of the importance of this month and aspire to continue their work.

Kingston student, Lily Tham, a passionate advocate of women’s rights said: “I think it’s important that people know the history of what women went through to get to where we are today.

“My biggest role model is my mum, she’s achieved so much in life and I hope I can do the same and make her proud.”

Mo Syed, a third year KU student added: “It’s not only females that appreciate this month but men also look up to these inspirational females. They risked everything for equality and their rights, it’s motivating.”

During the month, inspirational stories and achievements will be shared of women from across the University.
