In the next issue of The River we are looking at the best coats on the high street at the moment and this week on RiverOnline we have picked out the best coats we saw you wearing at KU.
Name: Adelina Ibishi
Age: 20
Third-year journalism and international relations student
Coat: Surface To Air
Jumper: Primark
Jeans: Cheap Monday
Boots: Dr. Martens
Dr.Martens are the perfect shoe for any season. They pair well with jeans and leggings but also look great with dresses and skirts. With a pricey tag, DMs may seem expensive but with their bouncing soles this sturdy shoe will last you for years, through rain or shine.
The beige colour of Adelina's coat makes it simple to pair with a variety of outfits and shows us that you can be comfortable and look great. Adelina has balanced the colours out in her outfit perfectly creating a fresh look.
Fashion tip: Off-white is a great colour for winter.
Name: Karsan
Age: 20
Knights Park foundation student
Coat: YMC via Urban Outfitters
Jeans: Dr Denim
Shoes: Vans
Although Karsan may be wearing a dark coloured coat, he has added some bright colour to his outfit. Women can add a splash of colour to their winter wardrobe by simply adding lipstick or bright accessories.
But Karsan shows how you men can do it too! Go for a brighter shade of denim when picking out jeans or simply add some colourful vans. Karsan's deep red vans are a perfect A/W colour.
Fashion tip: Colours such as red, yellow or orange create a warm look during the colder months.
Name: Diana Lei
Age: 20
Second-year media and cultural studies student
Jacket: ASOS
Scarf: Monki
Jeans: Topshop
Boots: Primark
As mentioned above, warm colours such as orange are perfect for this time of year and Diana has worked it well with her outfit. Jackets this colour can often be hard to pair but Diana has done this simply with acid wash jeans and black boots. Diana also fits in with the tartan trend with her Monki scarf which looks very cosy.
Acid wash jeans were popular in the 1980s and were worn with neon or other bright shades of clothing, which Diana has done. As the jeans are lightly coloured, the acid wash look does not stand out a lot therefore Diana is free to pair them with brighter coloured statement pieces.
Fashion tip: When wearing acid wash jeans keep the rest of your outfit simple, avoid wearing too many patterns or graphic t-shirts.
Name: Georgia
Age: 19
Knights Park foundation student
Coat: Topshop
Jeans: Levis
Black top: Charity shop
Georgia is wearing DM shoes with black socks which look great with the rolled up Levis and also ideal for keeping warm while still sticking to the rolled up trouser trend which a lot of you seem to be rocking at KU at the moment.
Georgia's shoes give a pop of colour to her outfit and are the perfect Autumn colour. If you want to wear something similar you could try matching a red lip when wearing a black or brown coat for that extra pop of colour.
Fashion tip: Want a pair of high waisted (mom) jeans but don't want to pay a fortune? Try vintage stores or charity shops for a bargain.
