Grammy award winners- predictions

By River Reporter Feb 9, 2013

Nominees for the 55th annual Grammy Awards have been revealed. On Sunday we will all be on the edge of our seats as to who will walk away with an award.

Anna Stayduhar

There is an impressive list of nominated hopefuls but who has what it takes to walk away a winner? I have my predictions.

‘Record of the Year’

Six artists have been nominated for the coveted title of ‘Record of the Year’. The first one is The Black Keys for The Lonely Boy, second is Kelly Clarkson for Stronger, third is Fun for We Are Young, fourth is Gotye for Somebody I Use To Know, fifth is Frank Ocean for Thinkin About You and at number six Taylor Swift for We Are Never Getting Back Together.  From this group of budding artists I feel Kelly Clarkson’s hit Stronger was the most popular and well received with listeners. However, county pop princess, Taylor Swift  could end up walking away with the Grammy as her popularity as an artist has been better than ever, even after the Harry Styles‘ split.

‘Song of the Year’

If Carly Rae Jepsen wins a Grammy, I shall eat a vinyl record with chilli sauce. The others competing for this division include Ed Sheeran, Miguel Pimentel and Jack Atonoff.

‘Best Pop Solo Performance’

I fully expect to see Adele walking away with the Grammy for ‘Best Pop Solo Performance’. Her unforgettable and haunting performance of Set Fire to the Rain at Royal Albert Hall is one that cannot be surpassed by the other nominees. Rihanna and Kelly Clarkson were very good but I think Adele has this award in the bag.

‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’

When considering the ‘Best Pop Duo/Group Performance’ award, I feel it is destined for LMFAO’s I’m Sexy and I Know It. The other nominees just don’t seem to stand out and since I have heard this song being played on the radio all the time unlike the other nominees. It is clearly is a popular song so LMFAO should have this award in the bag… and they know it!

‘Best Traditional R&B Performance’

Finally, the ‘Best Traditional R&B Performance’ should go to Beyoncé for Love On Top. She has had a great year and huge support from her fans following its release and also with her outstanding performancing at the US Presidential Inauguration and more recently at the Super Bowl. With that being said, it won’t be surprising to see her walk away with yet another Grammy.

Whatever happens I expect to witness a great night of music entertainment and celebrating achievement, hosted by LL Cool J.
